About Truck Wala & Highway Culture
Truck Wala is an independent retro tribute celebrating the unsung heroes of India's logistics backbone — the long-haul commercial truck drivers who navigate thousands of kilometres across national highways, mountain passes, and desert freight corridors. In India, a commercial truck is more than an industrial transport vehicle; it is a moving home, a gallery of folk art, and an acoustic sanctuary.
Operating a multi-axle freight lorry across state borders requires immense physical endurance and mechanical resourcefulness. Crewed typically by a senior driver (*Ustaad*) and an apprentice cleaner (*Khlasi*), truckers live inside custom-fabricated wooden cabins for weeks at a time. They navigate around-the-clock shift demands, strict municipal daylight no-entry curfews around major metropolises, complex transport paperwork (*e-Way bills and biltis*), and unpredictable weather extremes.
Along this demanding journey, two cultural lifelines keep the spirit of the road alive: the 24/7 roadside dhaba—with its woven charpais, roaring clay tandoor, and steaming kettles of strong ginger tea—and the dashboard stereo deck. For decades, the magnetic audio cassette deck mounted on the rear sleeper bulkhead has been the driver's closest companion, spinning rolling mixes of 90s Bollywood chartbusters, soulful qawwalis, and regional folk rhythms that turn lonely midnight stretches into unforgettable journeys.
Truck Wala honors that open-road heritage. With every track, we salute the people behind the wheel who keep India's supply lines moving, one highway kilometer at a time.

The Highway, the Dhaba, the Chai
Every truck driver knows the rhythm of an Indian highway — hours of open road, a dhaba at the edge of town, chai poured from a kettle into a steel glass, and one cassette kept on repeat in the cabin. Highway ke safar ke saath purane gaane. That is the feeling Truck Wala is built around: old Hindi songs, 90s favourites and retro music as the soundtrack of an Indian road trip.
Horn OK Please — Truck Art Culture
From “Horn OK Please” painted in bold letters to the hand-painted suns and borders on every rear door, the Indian truck is a moving canvas. Truck Wala is a small tribute to that truck-art culture — black, yellow, red and orange, the colours of the highway, carried in a truck driver's cabin cassette player on every long night drive.
WalaVerse
Truck Wala is part of WalaVerse, a family of retro tributes to India's everyday heroes. From the auto-rickshaw streets to the long highway, each Wala is a different ride — and each one keeps its own cassette playing.
